Bobby Moegle

Class of 2011

Bobby Moegle

Bobby Moegle coached baseball at Monterey High School from 1960-1999. The Plainsmen won state titles in 1972, 1974, 1981 and 1996. They lost in the state championship game in 1961, 1971, 1978 and 1997. Five other times — 1963, 1970, 1984, 1985 and 1994 — Moegle’s teams made it to Austin and the state semifinals. His teams won 33 district championships, and in 1972, Moegle was named as the National Coach of the Year.

In his years at Monterey, the Plainsmen won 1115 games, and he remains the winningest high school baseball coach in America by most historians. He was voted Texas high school coach of the year three times. He ranked No. 59 on the list of Lubbock’s most influential residents as researched and compiled by the Avalanche-Journal.
