Jim Carter

Jim Carter coached tennis at Coronado High School during three separate time periods: 1969-1980, 1984-1990, and 1998-2005. He is currently the head tennis coach at Monterey High School.

During his 24 combined years of coaching at Coronado, his teams won 427 matches with 54 losses and 5 ties. His teams won three regional championships, three regional runner-up finishes, two state team runner-up finishes and one team state championship in 2003. His teams posted a #10 state ranking for 13 consecutive years, including a #1 ranking in 2003, #2 ranking in 1998 and 2004, a #3 ranking in 1999 and a #4 ranking in 2000. His teams won 21 District Championships. In 1999, the Coronado girls team held a #3 national ranking by the National High School Tennis Coaches Association and a #5 national ranking in 1998.

Individually, Coach Carter had 2 singles players advance to the state tournament and 19 doubles teams advance to the tournament. He coaches state championship doubles teams in 1975, 1987, and 2000. He also coached three National Prince All-Americans.

He was named Texas Tennis Association Coach of the Year in 1988, 2000 and 2004. Carter was inducted into the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1992.
