A huge thank you to the sponsors for this year’s event.
Hector Limon | 1978 - 1982 | Estacado High School
Most honorees in the Hall of Honor are recognized for one sport, but there are a few select Lubbock ISD athletes that qualify to be recognized as two sport honorees. Hector Limon is one of those athletes because of his amazing accomplishments at Estacado High School in both football and baseball.
Hector was a 4-year starter at shortstop for the Matador Baseball team. In 1979, he was named 1st Team All- District in 4-4A, All-City, and All-South Plains. He was also selected as the Newcomer of the Year. Estacado won the district 4-4A championship and went to the Area Round of the playoffs. Limon was selected the 4-4A District MVP in 1981 and was 1st Team All State. In his senior year, Hector was 1st team All-State as the Matadors made it to the State Semifinals.
Hector’s remarkable versatility was on full display as his football career took off on the junior varsity at Estacado in 1979. His skills were quickly recognized, and he was promoted to the varsity for the playoffs, where the Matadors finished as a State Semi-Finalist. In his junior year, he was All-State, a clear demonstration of his ability to excel in multiple sports.
Hector finished his Estacado football career in 1981, being selected to All-State. He was heavily recruited to play football, but his heart was in baseball.
Limon was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds but elected to continue his baseball career at Lubbock Christian University.
Hector was a 4-year starter for the Chaps under Coach Larry Hays. In his first year at LCU, the Chaps won the 1983 NAIA National Championship. In 1985, Hector was named to the District 8 First Team as an outfielder. He followed that up in 1986 as the District 8 First Team 3rd baseman and the Player of the Year. He was elected to the LCU Hall of Honor in 1998. His 1983 National Championship Team was elected to the same Hall of Honor in 2013.
Limon went into coaching after his playing days were over and was the Head Baseball Coach at Estacado, taking the team back to the State Tournament in 2010.
