Larry Miller | 1967 – 1970 | Estacado High School | Football
Football at Estacado got off to an amazing start with a state championship in their first year of varsity competition. Larry Miller was right there at the start and one of reasons the Matadors started so well. He was one of those athletes that had it all. His coach, Jimmie Keeling, called Miller a perfect running back. He had versatility, size, lots of speed, and tremendous moves. Miller’s Estacado Football teams won the district championship in 1968 and 1969. He led those teams in scoring, yards rushing, field goals, and extra points. In his senior year of 1969, Larry set a school and city record in scoring. He also led the Matador offense that year in rushing, scoring, and receiving. Miller played in the same backfield with Lubbock ISD Athletic Hall of Honor Members James Mosley and Kenneth Wallace. He was All-City, All-District, and All South Plains in 1968 and 1969. In 1969, Miller was selected to the All-State Team. He was also voted the Most Valuable Matador Football Player, by his Estacado teammates, for the 1969 season. Larry was invited to play in the annual Coaches Association All Star Game in the summer of 1970. He was the epitome of the complete high school football player and winner.
