Amanda Parsons | 2003-2007 | Coronado High School | Softball
It was evident from an early age that Amanda Parsons was gifted athletically. She would use those gifts to become one of the greatest softball players in Coronado High School and Lubbock ISD history.
She was a four-year starter at Coronado for legendary Coach J.J. Johnson, a member of the Lubbock ISD Athletic Hall of Honor. In fact, Amanda would start every game of her career for the Mustangs. She was selected 1st Team All-District each of four years. During her time at Coronado, the Mustangs had tremendous success. They won District all four of Amanda’s years compiling a 97-26 overall record and a 47-1 District record. The Mustangs also won 11 Gold Glove Playoff Trophies during that time.
Amanda made an immediate impact on the field during her freshman season in 2004, helping lead Coronado to a stellar 27-4 record, its ninth straight District Title, and getting to the Regional Semifinals. She played every inning at either catcher or first base, setting a school season record with 258 putouts. That season, Amanda earned numerous honors, including District 2-5A “Newcomer of the Year,” All-Academic Team recognition, and a spot on the Arlington Spring Break Classic All-Tournament Team.
Her sophomore year was impressive as well, as she guided Coronado to its tenth consecutive District Championship and an Area Round Finalist with a 18-10 overall record. Amanda was named District 2-5A “Offensive Player of the Year,” was selected to the All-American team, and received statewide recognition as a Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 1st Team All-State catcher.
In 2006, her junior year was even more impressive. The team finished the season in the Regional Quarterfinals with a 31-6 record. Amanda was selected again as the District “Offensive Player of the Year” and 1st Team All-State.
Amanda’s senior year was almost a copy of the previous year. She was selected as the District MVP and made the All-State Team for the third consecutive year. The team finished at 31-6 in the Area Round of the playoffs. She would finish her time at Coronado with a batting average over .400, 22 homeruns, and as the Mustangs All-Time career leader in hits.
After high school, Amanda made history by becoming the first student-athlete to sign a softball scholarship with Lubbock Christian University. She went on to help lead the Lady Chaps to an NAIA National Championship in their inaugural season. Over her four-year career at LCU, she appeared in 249 games and compiled a .365 career batting average, with 30 home runs and 185 RBI’s.
Amanda earned her degree from LCU in May 2011 and later continued her passion for softball by competing internationally with United States of America Athletes International.
Most athletes can only dream of a career like the one Amanda experienced with Coronado and LCU Softball. She made it a dream come true.
