Kriss Ethridge

Class of 2020

Kriss Ethridge | 1978 – 1981 | Monterey High School | Girl's Basketball

Most of you know Kriss Ethridge, either from her many years at Lubbock ISD or from the legendary career she had as a basketball player at Monterey. She helped lead the Lady Plainsmen to two state tournament appearances and two state championship games. In 1980, Monterey fell to Dallas South Oak Cliff in the finals, but in 1981, they won the state championship by defeating Duncanville 72-71. That championship was the first for a girls’ basketball team from Lubbock ISD. Kriss was named to the All-District Team in 1979, 1980, and 1981. She was also selected to the All-State Team in 1981 and was a Converse All-American that same year. Ethridge attended the University of Texas on a full basketball scholarship from 1981-1986. The Longhorns were undefeated in league play during her time at UT. The 1986 Texas team won the Women’s National Championship with a perfect 32-0 record. There is no doubt that Kriss Ethridge is one of the all-time greats in Monterey and Lubbock ISD history. She and her sister, Kamie, also a member of the Lubbock ISD Athletic Hall of Honor, are most likely the best sister combination ever. Kriss is currently the Girls Athletic Coordinator and the Girls Golf Coach at Coronado High School. Previously, she served as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Coronado for 10 years. She was named South Plains Coach of the Year in 2010-11 and 2011-12. She was also the District Coach of the Year in 2011-12. An outstanding English teacher, she received Teacher of the Year awards in 2005 and 2010. Kriss Ethridge is one of the best basketball players ever and a true competitor in every sense of the word.
