Jimmy Gafford
Class of 2016
Jimmy Gafford | 1951-1952 | Lubbock High School | Football
Jimmy Gafford, or as teammates called him, “Moose” played tackle on the 1951 and 1952 Lubbock High School State Champion Football Teams. During his time as a Westerner, Gafford was named to the All-District and All-State Teams, and earned recognition as a High School All-American (6th Team). His hard work and dedication earned him the Most Valuable Player Award, as voted by his teammates.Gafford received a football scholarship to the University of Texas, but chose to attend San Angelo College. Gafford played guard at San Angelo, and was selected All-State, All-Conference, and honorable mention All-American. Gafford continued his football career at Oklahoma University, where he spent a redshirt season before transferring to Midwestern University. There he was selected outstanding lineman by his teammates. After Midwestern dropped their football program, he transferred to East Texas State, where he played on back-to-back Tangerine Bowl Championship teams. Back to class of 2016
