Open the historic record books for Monterey Girls Basketball, and the name Kim Sumrall immediately commands the top of almost every major statistical category. Decades after finishing her playing days at Monterey, her name remains prominent—a testament to her legacy as a dominant force and one of the greatest athletes to ever put on a Lady Plainsmen uniform.

Even 20 years after her graduation from Monterey, Kim still ranked at the top of almost every statistic. She held the record for most points in a Monterey game with 48. In her senior year, she had the most points for a season and was 2nd in career points. She trailed only Hall of Honor Member Kamie Ethridge. Kim was second all-time in rebounds in a game and in a season. She once had 9 blocked shots in a game. She finished in the top 10 in season and career blocked shots.

As a sophomore, Kim was All-District, Newcomer of the Year, All-City, and All-South Plains. In her senior year, Kim was All-District MVP, All-City MVP, All-South Plains MVP, All-Region, and 1st Team All-State. The Lady Plainsmen ended the season as Area Champions during Sumrall's senior year. She was an All-Tournament selection in the Caprock Tournament and was voted the Monterey MVP and Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the Lady Plainsmen.

After high school, Sumrall stayed close to home, playing for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball team.

Sumrall was a gifted athlete with tremendous basketball skills. Her ability to score the basketball was legendary.
