Every so often, an athlete comes along who sets an entirely new standard for excellence—such was the case with Coronado High School volleyball player Robyn Smith Everson. At the time of her high school career, ninth graders were still housed on the junior high campus, but rules permitted varsity teams to bring up two exceptional freshmen ready for the highest level of competition. Recognizing her rare talent, newly appointed head coach and Hall of Honor Member Brandi Cantrell brought Robyn up to play on the 2002 Coronado varsity squad. It was a massive testament to her ability, given that Coronado already boasted a powerhouse program loaded with talented, experienced upperclassmen.

As a sophomore, Robyn led the Lady Mustangs to the Region 1 Semifinals for the first time in school history. Smith was named to the First Team All-District team.

In her junior season, she helped get Coronado to the 5A State Championship match. Even though they had to settle for State Runner-up, getting there was another first for the Lady Mustangs. The team set a school record with 41 wins and won the District Championship. Robyn was named to the Texas Girls' Association All-State Volleyball Team and was the district Player of the Year.

Her stellar Coronado career earned Robyn a scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas. After earning high praise during her career, her tremendous play and leadership led to her induction into the Central Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in the Class of 2020-21.

Robyn is the most decorated volleyball player in Lubbock ISD, leading the most decorated team in the district's history at Coronado High School. Without question, Robyn Smith is one of the greatest to ever compete for Lubbock ISD.
