While the historic tradition of Monterey High School baseball has produced numerous outstanding athletes, Tim Leslie firmly established himself as one of the finest to ever take the field for the Plainsmen. His exceptional career at the plate and on the diamond remains a benchmark for the program. As a sophomore, Leslie contributed significantly to the 1974 State Championship team, posting an impressive .323 batting average.

During his senior year, he batted .381 despite playing with a broken foot. He also broke his wrist at the end of district play that year.

Leslie was named All-District, All-City, and All-South Plains in both his junior and senior years.

Tim also competed on the Monterey football team in his junior and senior years and received All-District and All-City recognition.

Leslie's remarkable baseball career earned him a scholarship to Lubbock Christian University, where he played for legendary coach Larry Hays.

He was named LCU's Freshman of the Year in 1977. In his senior year, he batted .389 with 21 home runs. Both marks led his team in 1980.

Leslie posted a career batting average of .374 during his four years at LCU. His stats at LCU put him at the top in runs batted in, doubles, total hits, and third in home runs with 59. His 1977 and 1980 teams played in the NAIA College World Series, and he was a first-team All-American.

In 1990, Leslie was inducted into the LCU Athletic Hall of Honor and the NAIA Baseball Hall of Fame.

Tim majored in biology at LCU and recently retired from his successful dental practice in Lubbock.
