1986 State Champion Track Team
Class of 2023
1986 State Champion Track Team | Estacado High School
They went through the entire season winning every meet they entered, including the State Meet.
Led by legendary coach Percy Hines, a 2012 Inductee into the Hall of Honor, the Matadors won the District Championship by scoring 175 points. They would win the Region and the State Meet.
In the State Meet, the championship came down to the final race, the Mile Relay.
The Matadors had to win the race to be State Champions and they did just that. Farias Walker, Todd Doss, Prennis Dial, and Richard Ross took their team to the championship. With the win, Estacado edged out Port Arthur Lincoln who finished 2 points behind with 38.
There were many talented athletes that contributed to this team. There are few track teams that win every single meet and this team set itself apart from all others.
