Don Burrell | 1963–1966 | Lubbock High School | Football
Don was the very first black football player to compete for the Westerners. Before his football career was over, he would be considered one of the best receivers to ever come out of Lubbock ISD.
Burrell was named All-City, All-District, and All-South Plains in his senior season for Lubbock High. That great season would lead Don to a scholarship to play for Angelo State University. He was a 4-year letterman for the Rams and finished his career there as the all-time record holder for passes caught in a season and career. Don was ranked as the #3 receiver in the nation while at ASU and he was named All-American after his senior year.
Burrell was selected in the 12th round of the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts.
