Butch Henderson | 1988–2011 | Coronado High School | Coach
In 1978, Butch started his head coaching career at Borger High School where his teams compiled a record of 59-45-1. From there he came to Lubbock Coronado where he would spend the next 23 years building the Mustangs Football program.
Prior to his arrival at Coronado, the Mustangs had only 6 winning seasons and one playoff appearance in the history of the school. Under Coach Henderson, the Mustangs won or shared 5 District Championships and made it all the way to the Regional Finals in 1996 and 2007.
His record at Coronado was 141-105. During his head coaching years, Butch was named District Coach of the Year 6 times and South Plains / Top of Texas Coach of the Year 8 times. He was the recipient of the Coaches Care Award in 1992.
After his career as a high school coach, Henderson took over the Wayland Baptist University Football Program as their Head Coach. It was their first team since the program was disbanded 70 years before during World War II. Coach Henderson got the program up and running giving many area players the chance to continue their football career.
He is now retired from coaching.
