Congratulations to the Class of 2024

A. G. Perryman | 1966 - 1969 | Dunbar High School | Football

A.G. Perryman is one of the greatest to compete for the Panthers. That is saying a lot when you consider the great athletes that competed for the Panthers through the years.

He was a three-year letterman in football and was the top ball carrier, receiver, and tackler at Dunbar. He was named All-District, All-Area, and All-State, and was selected to the prestigious High School All-American Team. In addition, he was on the All-Area Academic Team.

In 1967, A.G. made history as the first athlete from Dunbar to be named to the UIL All-State Team. This was a significant milestone for both A.G. and the school, especially considering Dunbar’s previous participation in the Prairie View Interscholastic League from 1950-1966.

Another remarkable fact about A.G. was that he was named to the All-State Second Team on both the offensive and defensive lines in 1967. In 1968, he moved to the backfield for the Panthers. He was named to the All-State Second Team as a running back and to the All-State 1st Team as a linebacker.

A.G.’s most outstanding award came when he was selected for the Scholastic Magazines All-American High School Football Team. He may be the only Dunbar football player to have ever received such an award.

After his stellar 1968 season, Coach Chuck Fairbanks of the Oklahoma Sooners heavily recruited him, and he accepted a scholarship to play football for Oklahoma. He was put in at tailback when he arrived at OU, but when Oklahoma made the move to the Wishbone Offense in 1970, A.G. was the first fullback to play in that new offense. Later he was moved to tight end for the Sooners.

A.G. passed away but we honor his memory and the accomplishments and recognition he brought to Dunbar High School and the Panther Football Team.
